Fear is only as deep as the mind allows. – Japanese Proverb
While reading a past issue of one of my favorite magazines, I came across an article discussing fear and we would do if we did not have it. It made me think… what would I do if I had no fear? Fear tends to be our biggest hindrance. Stopping us from doing the things that we desire. Then it hit me… I had no clue. The simple answer is to say I would achieve everything I desire, that nothing would stop me. But that would too easy. I really wanted to be specific. Life is all about living the life you want, being happy and achieving your own version of success.
Overcoming Fear
There are many dysfunctional thoughts and attitudes we must do away with if we want to overcome fear. The thing is- we can’t keep wallowing or dwelling. We need to decide when we are done- and BE DONE! Things like self-criticism, humorlessness, distractions and self-deception are dysfunctional ways to contribute to our fear. Do away with being your own critic, laugh and smile every chance you get, become more present and be honest with the most important person…you!!
It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. – Marcus Aurelius
What would I do?
With fear out the window, I would:
- Quit my job and travel the world.
- Apply for job positions I may not be qualified for.
- Achieve all of the things on my bucketlist. Checkout my bucketlist here.
- Live adventurously. (In the Danger Zone!)
- Be more self-confident in every aspect of my life.
The absence of fear contributes to our happiness and success. It increases our self-esteem, self-worth and self- confidence. Let me know what you would do in the comments!
