First of all let me state, I’ve never been the adventurous type. The 360 Scenic Overlook has been my closest experience to being…adventurous. After a short, steep hike up the cliff, what awaited me was amazing. Nothing can compare to the thoughts, feelings and sensations that were flowing through my body. My heart raced and my adrenaline was pumping. I was amazed and terrified at the same time. As I inched closer to the edge, I realized why so many people had this spot on their “must see” list when visiting Austin. Stunning views were in each direction. The Overlook looks out over the 360 Bridge (or Pennybacker Bridge). Views of Lake Austin, the Hill Country, and city skyline are all photo worthy on any day. Be sure to have your camera ready! If you are feeling up to it, there is small opening in the fence that leads to a hiking trail. In conclusion, the 360 Scenic Overlook is a must see.
- Bring your camera- The views allow for numerous portraits and opportunities for photo-ops, as you will see many with their cameras or cell phones snapping up the perfect selfie with an awesome view in the background.
- Wear safe, sturdy shoes- Its a steep climb up and down. It is worth nothing that even though the hike is short, it is uneven and filled with rocks, with uneven steps. If your require some degree of assistance when walking, I do not recommend this spot.
- Spend some time up there- The views are amazing! Soak it all in. Take a second to breathe and appreciate all the beauty and nature around you.
If heading downtown from Austin, head North to FM 2222 on Loop-1. Head South on 360 Loop/Capital of Texas Highway. Pass W Courtyard Dr. and before making it to the bridge, you will see parking on the right side of the road along a cliff. Be sure to park where the cars are. The entrance is located in the middle of the parking lot.
