Not sure if its the kid in me, but I love going to the zoo. Exploring new cities and noticing the difference from one zoo to the next. I decided to take a quick day trip to San Antonio. Which has become one of my favorite Texas’ cities to explore. There is so much to see and do.
Japanese Tea Garden
My first stop was the Japanese Tea Garden, which is literally a short distance from the zoo. The Tea Garden is such a tranquil place. Offering peaceful vibes as you stroll through the grounds. On any given day, you will find people flowing in and out snapping their best shots in the beautiful setting. A waterfall and plenty ponds filled with koi fish of various colors and shades, set the back drop. If you are heading to the Zoo, I encourage you to stop here first.
San Antonio Zoo
After exploring the Teen Garden, I made my way to the zoo. The San Antonio Zoo was a pretty decent size. Filled with an aquarium (a mini-one), reptile house, butterfly garden (if I’m honest, this was terrifying!), monkeys, bears, Gentle Giants (elephants, duh!), as well as animals unique to the Savannah and African Plains. My favorite exhibits included the Bald Eagle, Elephant Trio, and the giraffes.
Hope you enjoyed my photos and they inspire you to visit the Garden and Zoo if you are visiting San Antonio.

The tea garden is breathtaking! I feel more than already… Thanks also for sharing the photos of animals at the zoo. It is a poignant and beautiful reminder that we share the earth with some pretty amazing creatures!
It was! It is such a beautiful, peaceful place.
I got the pleasure of visiting this zoo many years ago with my family. Looking at your pictures was a trip down memory lane!
I always enjoy going to the zoo. It seems like you had a great time at the San Antonio zoo. Really loving the pictures. It’s definitely inspiring me to go on a trip to the zoo of my own.
You have some beautiful shots taken from this place! I really like the angle from the second picture, overlooking the pond. San Antonio just got better and I’m planning to visit the city someday!
This zoo looks amazing, very colourful and beautiful enviorments for the animals. I would have been too scared to go into the butterfly house!
I was terrified…they flew around constantly, landing on you. I was not a fan. They are beautiful though.
Thank you for your kind words.
We don’t have a zoo in our city, so I am especially intrigued by this post. Would love to go to the San Antonio Zoo with the family! I LOVE that Japanese Tea Garden. I could spend hours there alone. Wow.
The zoo looks fabulous but I’m so intrigued by the tea garden. It looks so lush and remote. I’d love to spend time there writing by myself!
This looks like a really great zoo to visit. The gardens and landscape are so picturesque and looks so relaxing.
The zoo looks so good, love how open and vast it is. All your pictures look amazing, would love to visit it. The tea garden is
